The Lancet Infectious Diseases was launched in August, 2001, and is a lively monthly journal of review, opinion, and news covering international issues relevant to clinical infectious diseases specialists worldwide.

In 2006, The Lancet Infectious Diseases convened a conference in Singapore: Preparing for Pandemic Influenza: The Avian Dimension and Other Emerging Threats, which brought together key health administrators, experts from the medical and scientific communities, as well as industry representatives to address this critical public health issue.

Reputation and Impact

The Lancet Infectious Diseases' impact factor of 12.06 is the highest of all infectious diseases journals (ISI Journal Citation Reports, 2007).

The journal publishes a range of article types that encompass all aspects of infectious diseases and medicine: Reflection and Reaction, Newsdesk, Media Watch, Reportage, Review, Historical Review, Personal View, Forum, Grand Round, and Clinical Picture. The Lancet Infectious Diseases does not publish original research.

The journal has an online submission and peer review website (EES). To submit a paper, point your internet browser to http://ees.elsevier.com/thelancetid and follow the on-screen instructions. If you have not used EES previously, you first need to visit the site and register. In EES, the corresponding author is the person who enters the manuscript details and uploads the submission files. Inclusion of illustrations (photographs, graphs, diagrams, etc) is a prerequisite for publication. Digital photography files should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and be at least 75 mm wide. Please do not import illustrations into PowerPoint or Word if they have originally been created in other software. Do not send any figures as bitmaps.

First submissions to The Lancet Infectious Diseases should include: covering letter, manuscript, figures, conflicts of interest statements, acknowledgments, and personal communications. We encourage disclosure of correspondence from other journals and reviewers, if previously submitted, and we might contact relevant editors of such journals.

Should your paper be selected for further consideration, we will then ask you to send copies of the following documents: covering letter (signed by all authors), conflicts of interest statements, signed patient consent and permission to publish, acknowledgments (written consent of cited individual), personal communications (written consent of cited individual), and use of copyright-protected material (signed permission statements from original publishers).

To minimise delays in the peer-review process, we strongly advise that the signed copies of these documents are prepared before you submit your manuscript.
