Treatment with bapineuzumab for 78 weeks reduced cortical 11C-PiB retention compared with both baseline and placebo. 11C-PiB PET seems to be useful in assessing the effects of potential Alzheimer's disease treatments on cortical fibrillar amyloid-β load in vivo.

Piccini and colleagues1 recently used PET with carbon-11-labelled raclopride (a D2-recepter antagonist to investigate dopamine release after methamphetamine challenge in six healthy volunteers and six patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Microdialysis studies in rodents and non‐human primates have shown that amphetamine causes dopamine release. Piccini and colleagues report a 25·2% decrease in putaminal 11 C-raclopride binding potential in healthy human beings after meth amphetamine challenge compared with placebo.
